Congratulations! ShanghaiTech team wins First Prize in CUPT 2022

From October 3 to 6, the 13th China Undergraduate Physics Tournament (CUPT) was held online. ShanghaiTech team, consisting of 12 second-year undergraduates majoring physics, ranked ninth among 65 teams representing universities all over the country, and was awarded the First Prize, which was the best result since ShanghaiTech’s first participation in CUPT in 2019.

 

ShanghaiTech team won the First Prize, tied with Nankai and Peking


CUPT is composed of two parts: one report and a final debate session. Competition questions were released one year in advance. Each team are required to submit a report based on research and discussion, and debate online during the final competition stage. A panel of judges give comments and scores according to the performance of each team. The depth of their understanding of the question, innovative ideas, convincingness of the viewpoints, and friendly manner of each team members are the evaluation criteria.

SPST organizes academic events for undergraduate students to broaden their vision and enrich their research training as part of the undergraduate curriculum. The school also encourages first-year and second-year undergraduates to participate in academic competitions, so that students may have opportunities to sharpen their hands-on abilities, explore new ways of thinking, and improve team spirit.

 

The team was coached by three SPST professors:

Li Runze, Jiang Yifan and John McGuire.
